This course offers a comprehensive examination of the political dynamics that have shaped the European Union, thanks to a focus on Germany’s central role in European integration. This foundational course unravels the trajectory of European unity by examining Germany’s influence on political, economic, and social integration within Europe. Through a chronological journey from the early steps towards European unity mainly from the aftermath of World War II to the establishment of the European Community and onwards to today’s European Union, participants will gain an advanced understanding of the factors that facilitated and hindered integration, the significance of German hegemony, and the prospects for the EU to address internal and external challenges.
