This course provides an in-depth examination of the evolution of the state in Western society from the early nineteenth century to contemporary challenges. Divided into three segments, the course begins with an analysis of the state’s attempt at monopolising knowledge production, education, and the media, creating a quasi-religion around the state. The second section investigates the state’s growing economic reach, from the rise of taxation and fiat money to the socialisation of healthcare and economic regulation. The final part delves into the contemporary pitfalls of state control related to economic decline, immigration, the Internet, and blockchain technologies.
