Privacy statement

This website presents the research of Emmanuel Comte. It sells nothing, offers no paid services and requires no account. This statement explains which personal data the site processes when you visit it or write to me, why, on what legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and what rights you have.

1. Controller

Dr Emmanuel Comte
E-Mail: info@emmanuel-comte.eu

2. Visiting the website

Hosting. The site is hosted by manitu GmbH in Germany. When you open a page, the server records technical data in its log files: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and operating system. These data are needed to deliver the site and keep it secure. The host keeps them for a limited period and then deletes them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in running a reliable and secure website.

Security. The security software Wordfence examines requests to the site and records IP addresses in order to detect and block attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Visitor statistics. The plugin WP Statistics counts visits on the site’s own server. IP addresses are anonymised and hashed before storage, browser details are not stored, no cookies are set, and no data are passed to third parties. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in knowing which content readers use.

All pages are transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).

3. Third-party services

Google Fonts. To display text, the pages load fonts from Google Fonts, a service of Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC. Your browser therefore sends your IP address to Google, which may process it in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in a consistent display of the site. See Google’s privacy policy.

Tagembed. The home page displays my latest social media posts through Tagembed, a social media feed service. To provide it, the site loads Tagembed’s script, and your browser connects to Tagembed’s servers, which receive your IP address and may set cookies. These servers may be located outside the European Union. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in showing my recent posts. See Tagembed’s privacy policy.

Embedded media. Where a page embeds content from a third-party platform, such as a YouTube video, that content loads only after you click on it. Only then does the platform receive your data, under its own privacy policy. If you choose to always allow content from a platform, a cookie records that choice.

External links. Links to publishers, podcast platforms, Substack and social networks lead to sites that have their own privacy policies. No data pass to them unless you click on a link.

4. Cookies

The site itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Cookies may be set by Tagembed (see section 3), by the embedded-media choice described above, by the newsletter tool when a subscriber clicks a link in a newsletter (see section 5), and by WordPress for the site administrator when logged in. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.

5. E-mail and newsletter

E-mail. If you write to me at info@emmanuel-comte.eu, I use your address and message only to reply to you. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in answering enquiries. I delete the correspondence once it is no longer needed.

Newsletter. You can ask by e-mail to join the mailing list. I then store your e-mail address, and your name if you give it, in the newsletter tool MailPoet on the site’s own server, and send the newsletter, which announces new publications and podcast episodes, through the mail server of my host, manitu GmbH. The newsletter records whether it is opened and which links are clicked, so that I can see which content interests readers. Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time through the unsubscribe link in every newsletter or by e-mail; your address is then removed from the list.

Substack. My Substack publication is a separate service operated by Substack Inc. If you subscribe there, Substack’s own privacy policy applies.

6. Retention

I keep personal data only as long as the purpose requires: server and security logs for a limited period, correspondence until it is no longer needed, and newsletter data until you unsubscribe.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • obtain access to the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15);
  • have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16);
  • have your data erased (Art. 17);
  • restrict their processing (Art. 18);
  • receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20);
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21);
  • withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing (Art. 7(3)).

To exercise these rights, write to info@emmanuel-comte.eu. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work, or with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr).

8. No automated decisions

I do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

9. Changes

I will update this statement whenever the website changes. Last updated: 1 October 2026.
